Nana was a building on The Pike to display the famous painting 'Nana'.
Etymology[edit | edit source]
Before the Fair[edit | edit source]
Nana was painted by Russian Gospodin Marcel Gavriel Suchorowsky (Sukhorovsky) and was known as “Nana”. It was described as “the highest form of the nude in art, but, so elevated, so pure and so beautiful that the most biased mind can find no impure suggestion to the graceful figure”. It measured 72 x 108. The imposing size of the work required a room to herself. She was normally displayed on a raised platform, red velvet drape and theater lights at the left.
Suchorowsky finished Nana in 1881. He was a member of the Art Academy in St. Petersburg, Russia and was named a professor after its completion.
