The Agriculture Building in the Philippine Exhibit showed the agricultural resources, horticultural products, tropical fruits and vehicles of land transportation.

Description

The exhibits in this building numbered over 20,000 individual pieces, and received nine grand prizes, 4 gold medals, 179 silver medals, 145 bronze medals, and 463 honorable mentions.

The Philippine Agriculture Building was a spacious structure built chiefly of bamboo and nipa. Inside, protected by glass cases were shown rare Orchids. Hemp had a large display, in 1903, the crop was worth $20,000,000 ($603 million in 2021). Manilla hemp, from wild banana was displayed from the rafters in a trail of long white festoons of hemp which seem as fine as silk. An exhibit of the manufacture of hemp, done without machinery was displayed. Heavy wooden combs, used for reducing the fibre in the first stage of treatment, and the carts with the wooden wheels for transporting this fibre from the plantations into the towns where it undergoes the second stage of treatment, being twisted into ropes.
