April 1, 1911

  • Less than three weeks before the LPEC charter expired, the company contracted for construction of the Jefferson Memorial, which began immediately.

April 8, 1911

  • Jefferson Memorial ground breaking ceremony. David R. Francis participated in the ceremony.

May 1, 1911

  • Jefferson Memorial cornerstone laying. Construction took two years and cost about $450,000.

June 22, 1911

  • Pipe organ from Festival Hall dedicated, after being bought and moved to a Philadelphia, PA Macy's by department store king John Wanamaker. It is still world's largest organ and is played twice daily.
